Euston Road

Previously you told us

  • Streets, particularly along the station, should have active frontages with shops, windows and doors so that they feel safe and pleasant
  • Improve pedestrian and cyclist experience and safety, and routes and connections, with real consideration for both the needs of children and for people with disabilities
  • Remove barriers to movement and directing more footfall to local streets to make them feel safer.
  • Invest in façades and public realm along local routes such as signage and lighting, art by local artists, pockets of open space, seating, greening, which could also host markets or pop-up activity to increase footfall.
  • Prioritise green space for residents and the creation of new, imaginative green spaces.

Our proposal

  • Transform Euston Road to provide a safer, more pleasant and inclusive environment, delivering the Euston Healthy Streets vision, including new road crossings and improved public realm
  • The historic Euston Square Gardens should be restored and protected in terms of its use as a valuable open space and heritage asset
  • The bus station should be redesigned to create a more welcoming, usable and attractive space and should not encroach upon Euston Square Gardens
  • Improving the frontages of buildings will create more vibrant, active, and attractive streets
  • Enabling safe and easy east-west cycling through Euston through the provision of high-quality cycling improvements
  • Traffic should be restricted at northern end of Gordon Street and a pedestrianised area created with space for a proposed new underground station
